International Women's Day Fun Run/Walk
On Sunday 7th March, I'll be again supporting the great work of chicks in pink by joining the International Women's Day Fun Run/Walk at Southbank. Check out last year's efforts! (And yes, our team was called "The Bold & The Beautiful", and we wore custom-designed tops with our levels of Boldness and Beautiful-ness on them, and matching pink nail polish, of course...!)

chicks in pink is a volunteer based, not-for-profit organisation whose major beneficiary is the Mater Hospitals Breast Care Unit. chicks in pink aim to raise money for breast cancer care and support at the Mater through fun, innovative and educational activities.
A friend (we'll call her Cleo) was diagnosed with breast cancer around two and a half years ago and she’s still receiving intensive treatment at the Mater Breast Care Unit. She has undergone a mastectomy with no chance of reconstruction due to tissue damage, and has recently been informed that she has no chance of conceiving children.
However, throughout all this, Cleo has been supported and cared for by the most wonderful staff you could imagine at the Mater, and her spirits are high and her outlook is positive. During many visits to the Mater, and also some home care, I have seen firsthand the exceptional work of the doctors and nurses. Sacrificing my Sunday morning sleep-in and dragging myself around Southbank in an effort to raise funds for chicks in pink is the very least that I can do to help.
Please join in if you are free on Sunday 7th March - women, men and children are all welcome! Go to RACQ International Women's Day Fun Run/Walk and sign up to raise funds, have fun and get a little exercise!
If you can't make it, or would like to put your money where your mouth is... please donate or sponsor the team So Shiny, and I at our Everyday Hero donation page. We're currently at $260, but I know that we can get more than that. If you'd like to join our fundraising team as well, please don't hesitate to contact me - the more the merrier, and I'll be whipping up some treats for afterwards!
Thanks for supporting such an important cause - everyone knows someone affected by breast cancer, and every little thing that we can do to fight this disease and provide funds for medical treatment and research counts.
So Shiny's fundraising target is a whopping $5000, so please give whatever you can - and hopefully see you there! We'll be the mad ones looking like we are in no way prepared for this ordeal, even though I've been planning on training using the Couch to 5Ks app on my iPod. Bah.
Thanks, and lots of love,
Katy

My Mum is a breast cancer survivor. And my friend Debby (lifesfunnylikethat.blogspot.com) - it's full on. Good luck with it Katy - great work!! And have a blast...
