Feeling Thankful Friday : Getting mail!

There is nothing nicer than getting snail mail, particularly cards, presents and magazine subscriptions. This is made even more wonderful when you aren't expecting anything at all!

I checked my mailbox early this morning to find that
National Geographic Magazine (the proper one, not that noncy Australian Geographic) had correctly changed my postal address, hurrah! This process can sometimes take up to 12 weeks as the magazine is produced and run entirely from the USA, and mailing lists are updated for individual issues up to two months in advance, but this change only took 6 weeks.

So on this bitterly cold and wintry Friday morning, I am thankful that I had a sweet new issue of National Geographic to peruse on the bus. I even noticed the hilarious older woman who dresses entirely in purple (really, she does - even purple hair) craning her neck for a squiz at my glorious yellow-bordered baby.

For those who may be interested, this issue's cover story is quite timely... it's about Mt St Helens, which had that enormous and devastating volcanic eruption in May 1980. The geological parallels with the unpronounceable Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland are uncanny, amazing to read about, and creepy. Don't forget also, that National Geographic cover stories are locked in months, if not years before the publication date. Spooky stuff.

The photography within the deliciously-new pages of the Nat Geo magazine is, as always, incredible and heart-stoppingly beautiful.

Thanks Nat Geo, you made my day!

Don't forget... if you like books (and if you don't, we're not friends anymore, ok?), head to this blog entry and enter to win a super little $75 Angus & Robertson gift card!

Happy Friday, kids!
