Feeling thankful Friday : She wore a raspberry beret...
... the kind you find at the second-hand store. (Or David Jones, actually. But shhhh.)
Hey Friday. Hi! I've missed you! I've missed a few Feeling Thankful Fridays. Oops! Sorry, please come back to me, Friday. I need you.
I am thankful that I have a warm head. There are all sort of studies (MYTHS!!!) showing that you lose the majority of your heat through your head, so I've jumped on the health-slash-fashion bandwagon and bought a stylish head-warming device.
So, I'm a hat-girl. I like 'em, and fortunately enough, I have very flat hair which doesn't interfere with the sitting-on-the-head-ness of the hat. I have been craving a particular grey felt cloche from Mimco for over a month now, but haven't had the wherewithal (or money, if you're not my grandmother's age, and don't know what that word implies), to purchase said hat. And now Mimco have sold out of that hat. Poop.

Last night, I tried on a few similar styles, like this funky Nouvo Mod fedora (above) from Mimco, but nothing really made me gasp with excitement and cry out 'That's the one! The one I've been waiting all these winters for!' I also tried on a couple of berets. Tricky stuff, the beret. Do you just slop it on your head and hope for the best, or arrange it jauntily for some Parisian chic?
For me, the best bet is to purchase a beret which is a little floppier than most, as it's a zillion times easier to get it to stay on your head in a brisk wind, and it's a lot more casual. And really, who wears a beret when they're frocking up?

I loved this one from Witchery, the pointelle details are cute as a button! And these super-cheap 100% wool berets are in the sweetest colours, too.
J'adore. I truly can't get enough of this soft dove grey beret with that fantastic spring-time coral flower. Or the dark and mysterious brown beret. I think I'd need a super-slick macintosh or trench coat to wear with it though!

But in the end, I went with a classic from the sale rack at David Jones. If you can call a 1985 song by Prince classic.
I know, I know, all my 80's-loving tragi-friends will shudder at the thought, but mid-80's for me equals nothing good. Perhaps some quite passable Genesis and Fleetwood Mac, and some supremely excellent Stevie Ray Vaughan floated around in the mid-80's, but generic radio-pop? No thank you.
(Ooooh, sidenote. Just realised that this is the first ever proper pic of me on this blog. Hi. This is me. Nice to be here. Have a good Friday. Please don't judge my shiny forehead and unmade bed. It's been a big day.)

I love that you finally showed yourself, but where's your HUGE smile?

A beret was part of our winter uniform at school - and thus is about as far from my wardrobe as possible.
Love a cloche myself - partly because of the evocative name!
