Snow worries!
It's Friday... what a week! I'm checking in briefly to let you all know that I haven't hurt myself too badly (which is not to say that I haven't fallen over every few minutes!), and have had a fantastic time up here at Mt Buller.
We're leaving today to head back to Melbourne, after six days and five nights at Hotel Pension Grimus, a lovely hotel right on the side of the main ski run at Buller. I can highly recommend Pension Grimus, our room was well-appointed with a separate bathroom and large spa (after skiing, this was bliss!). The daily continental breakfasts were huge and delicious, and nothing was too much effort for the friendly reception staff. The Grimus ski hire shop was great as well, so flexible with our rental gear, and even allowed us to hire walking boots and wrist guards at no extra cost. If you're thinking of taking a trip to Mt Buller, please stay at Pension Grimus!

Right next door to our accommodation was Breathtaker Hotel and Spa Retreat, and let me tell you... if you want pizza and hot chocolate at Mt Buller, this is where you should base yourself. The BT Pizzeria makes FABULOUS fresh gourmet pizzas daily from 4pm, and you can enjoy them in the 4th floor Loft Lounge & Bar, a cosy space with couches and a pool table (no, Double D wouldn't play pool with me. Scared, I tells ya!), or you can order for takeaway these delicious pizzas. I'd be lying if I told you that we didn't eat a Greek Mate pizza and a Loaded pizza in bed with a glass of red wine! The Breathtaker Signature Hot Chocolate was an incredible experience too... I'll upload photos of the Hot Chocolate as soon as they get converted. Divine.
The weather has been a little bit all over the shop, we arrived on Sunday afternoon to overcast and foggy skies, with snowflakes floating down to land on my poor little freezing QLD head. Gosh, why didn't people warn me that alpine equals cold...? Fortunately however, Monday through to Wednesday were perfect, crisp blue skies, fresh powder every evening for lovely slopes the next day. Thursday was miserable. Let me tell you, Brisbane-miserable is like peaches and cream compared to Buller-miserable. We woke up to drizzly rain which developed into hard sideways sleet as the morning progressed. Add eight-metre visibility to the slopes, and I was one scared little pumpkin tackling Bourke Street by myself. I can only imagine that it was like skiing through a giant tub of yogurt. Seriously. Thick, slushy, off-white. Yuk!
Must fly... suitcases to pack, buses to catch, Melbourne to shop. But I want to finish this Feeling Thankful Friday post with a HUGE thank you to the incredibly sweet, funny and generous Double D. Thank you for bringing me here, thank you for sharing something that you love so much with me. You're the best.
(Photo via Pension Grimus, I will definitely upload all the trip pics ASAP because I know you are all dying to see my supreme skiing skillz, right?)
