What a weekend!
So much fun, crammed into just two days. Phewf!
I had a quiet-ish night on Friday, dropped into #BTUB down at Greystone for a quick hello, then headed home to find a house full of my housemate's lovely friends lounging around. They'd planned on heading to the German Club for some Oktoberfest merriment, but as the queue to enter snaked out the driveway, along the road, and across a set of traffic lights, our place (only 4 blocks away) was a suitable alternative. A few too many glasses of red wine and some crankin' blues music, and I struggled to get out of bed for work on Saturday!
Saturday was dee-lightful though. After six hours of work in drizzling rain (it flew by, thank goodness), I headed to Riverside, Clayfield and then Spring Hill with my little car loaded up to help a good friend move house into a gorgeous home in Clayfield where I'm sure she will be so happy. Home to watch half of Sleepless in Seattle, tidy my bathroom cupboard (found three unopened bottles of fake tan - SCORE!) and then slept like a log. My Saturday happiness was completed by Collingwood's convincing win over St Kilda in the AFL Grand Final. Hoorah - premiership glory!
Waking up yesterday morning to some drizzle and a brisk wind was a little disappointing, but nothing was going to put Shannon and I off exploring Southbank. I was up at 6am to walk down the road to yoga, then cleaned my entire downstairs area in preparation for new furniture - thanks hun - and managed to bake some delicious low-fat apple swirl muffins (recipe to be posted here soon) to keep our energy levels up! The dining table and fridge (on loan indefinitely from the sweet friend who moved house) soon arrived and already they make our funny little sharehouse look like a home. Now for a new couch and bed, and I'll be set! (Anyone need their lovely designer furniture looking after... wink, wink?)
After arriving at Southbank, we strolled along the Young Designers Market on Little Stanley Street, where we both tried on at least 20 fascinators, and one of us may or may not have purchased a KILLER headpiece for the races. I can't tell you any more about the gorgeous purchase though, it's a surprise, you see!
We worked up a hearty appetite picking through the market stalls, then made our way down to one of my favourite parts of Southbank, the Formal Gardens, where the Granite Belt Flavours exhibition was taking place. After tasting and purchasing so many delicious chutneys and pastes from The Bramble Patch - I can highly recommend the Eggplant Kassoundi - we headed to the licensed area and I had a drop or two of a fabulous Verdelho, whilst Shannon was particularly taken by the Tempranillos on offer. We're going to head out to a winery in February for a Sicilian lunch and traditional stomping of the grapes, which I can't wait for! I think we were persuaded by the lovely little old Italian man when he told us that we MUST attend, as they need 'zee beautiful women to stomp on zee grapes'. Awwww.
Exhausted and hungry for something substantial, we strolled along the Promenade to the Cultural Forecourt, which was packed with people watching the Thai beauty pageant at the Thai Cultural and Food Festival. The smells emanating from all the little tents were amazing, and it wasn't long before we found a restaurant serving the most authentic massaman curry and pad thai. Fortune shone on us, and this particular restaurant just happens to be located in Clayfield, so close to my friend's lovely new home, so there will be many Thai feasts in the future, I suspect!
As the rain started to pick up, so did our energy levels, and we got up from out little impromptu picnic on the grass to head back to the car, and home for an afternoon of naps, visiting friends and getting ready for the week. Lovely.
Thanks so much to the great friends I caught up with over the weekend, in little snippets of time with a hug and a 'Hi', or lovely long languid lunches. You're the best.
