Feeling Thankful Friday : the rain
It's raining, it's pouring, the old man and a few people I know are freaking out!
Well Brisbane, you've certainly given us a show of what we're in for during the 'wettest Spring in 40 years', thanks very much. Don't get me wrong, I love the rain. I love waking up to it on the tin roof, I love sitting on my balcony watching it sweep in from the west, I love the scent and the shine of freshly rained-upon grass. I love spotty umbrellas, and wet hair, and little kids splashing in puddles in yellow wellingtons.
But I don't like it to be raining when I have a lovely wedding to attend tomorrow. An outdoor wedding, by the bay at Wynnum. Ugh. I fear that the heels of my divine cream snakeskin peeptoe stilettos will sink into mud, and that the artfully placed ivory chiffon hair flower will wilt and sit damply on the nape of my neck. Double ugh.
I need to be positive. I need to create a dry, warm, sunny day in my mind. I need to get myself to Bikram yoga tonight, and sweat all the fear out, and then rise tomorrow morning capable of supreme wedding guest presentation, no matter the weather.
In that case, I might dress as a duck.

On a serious note, we need the rain. We always do. These silly people who suggest that water restrictions should be bent, broken and thrown away after a good week of rain are crazy, crazy I tell you! Water restrictions are an excellent lesson for all (particularly children) in the responsibility and respect we should be showing our natural resources at all times. I know that there is one particular person who reads this here little blog, and that person has 30 minute showers. (Yes, you!) Twice a day, without fail. That person's showering habits make my blood boil, but it's a personal choice. I just shan't share my allocated 10 litres of water with that person once we are on super-tight restrictions in drought years to come. Sorry!
I like the rain, and just for today, it's totally fine. I'm thankful that it's raining today. Because then it should be all rained out by tomorrow. And because everyone loves a rainbow at a wedding!
