Christmas Countdown : update update update!

OMG. Seriously. This is the biggest Oh Em Gee that I've had in years. Huge. And amazingly, it involves me voluntarily spending quality time with my mother. Wowsers.

Are you sitting down? Really? Strapped in?

Jimmy Buffett is going to play two concerts in Sydney.

Yup. HUGE news!

Ok, I understand that approximately 0.2% of my readers know who he is, and even less know his songs. But for me, and for my dear Mumsy, this is akin to seeing Elvis play live. After he died. The impossible. The incredible.

I have to take my Mumsy to see Jimmy Buffett because she loves him, and I have to see him because I love him, and we have to go together because his music was very important to us getting through a difficult time. It's also the background music to all my summers, and it's the melody of my first overseas holiday, and it's the lyrics that my father sang to me all through my childhood. My father is a huge wanker, but I can't deny that the man had good music taste.

I've spent 29 years listening to Jimmy Buffett's very excellent brand of cruisy, sailor songs, and I suspect that it is his music that first set me on the path of being the country-music fan that I am. And yes, Mum and I argue frequently whether or not he is actually 'country'.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us both - and she doesn't read this blog, so it's hopefully going to be a surprise, woooo! Well, I think my stepdad and I are going to try to keep it a surprise until Christmas Day.

Because he's playing the Opera House in Sydney (Why Jimmy, why? It's tiny, and you'll sell it out, and lots of people will miss out.), and I'll need to buy tix and sort out the accommodation and all that garbage, I am saving my Christmas pennies and am now cleaning out the closet in preparation for some serious eBay selling and garage-saling! I was going to clear out the wardrobe anyway, but this is serious incentive!

Now, this is supposed to be a Christmas present blog post... so feel free to donate to the Send Katy and Mumsy to Jimmy Buffett fund, or perhaps give me lovely and expensive presents that I can sell to make money, haha! If you're also a Jimmy Buffett fan (collectively known as Parrotheads) and are planning to head down for the concert, I'd love to hear from you, or perhaps if you have a lovely and generous contact within Chugg Entertainment and are able to help us out... Or maybe you agree that playing the itty-bitty Opera House is retarded and that Jimmy should play a tropical gig in Cairns...

Oh, and if you know who Jimmy Buffett is, leave a comment and tell me that Mumsy and I aren't alone, it would make my day!

Fins up, Parrotheads!
